Setting up the server

How the Server Configurator creates or updates the databases and sets up the service, and what you do first in the Administration afterwards.

After you install the Server package, the Server Configurator starts. It creates the databases or brings them up to the level of the installed version and sets up the Server and SwyxCDS services under a service account. How a configurator works in general is described under The configurators.

SQL server credentials

On this page, you specify the database for configuration, statistics and licenses:

Field Entry
SQL Server the SQL Server as Name or Name\Instance. The list shows the SQL Servers that the configurator finds in the network; while it is searching, the field shows searching …, and the button next to it searches again. If your server is missing, enter it yourself.
SQL database the database. The list shows the databases of the server. For a new installation, enter a name that does not exist there yet, such as myContactCenter.
Account name, Password the SQL login — see Requirements
Create backup backs up an existing database before the configurator updates it. Off by default.
  • The name of the SQL Server is passed on by the server to the Agent and the Administration exactly as you enter it here; the workstations use it to read the data for reports. So enter a name that the workstations can resolve as well, not localhost or ..
  • The backup is written by SQL Server itself, as a .bak file under %ProgramData%\ilogixx GmbH\myContactCenter\Server\Backup on its own computer. If SQL Server runs on a different computer than the configurator, this folder must exist there.

The database for the conversations

The Select database to store conversation data page asks under Which database system should be used for the system for the Monitoring Database with tickets and conversations: Microsoft SQL Express / Server or PostgreSQL. Depending on your choice, one of these pages follows:

  • Sql Server Settings for Monitoring Database with the same fields as above, also with its own SQL login and its own Create backup. Give the database a name of its own; it may be on the same SQL Server.
  • PostgreSql settings with Postgres server, SQL database, Account name and Password. Postgres server lists the PostgreSQL servers that the configurator finds in the network segment of its computer, as Name:Port; only these can be selected. If it does not find your server, search again with the button next to it — each further search waits longer for a response. This page does not offer a backup.

Credentials

On the Credentials page, you enter the service account — see The service account. It applies to the Server and SwyxCDS services.

What Start does

With Start on the Configuration process page,

  1. the configurator stops the myContactCenter Server service,
  2. it creates the database if it does not exist yet, with the Administrator account, password passwort, and some evaluation keys. It first backs up an existing database if Create backup is switched on,
  3. it sets up the database logins for the service and for the reports on the workstations,
  4. it brings the database up to the level of the installed version,
  5. it creates the Monitoring Database or brings it up to date, with a backup if applicable,
  6. it moves emails and faxes that older versions still stored as files into the Monitoring Database.

The progress bar shows how far it has got; with large databases, an update can take a while. Then the configurator switches to Installation successfully completed. Whether each step succeeded — for example, whether the database was reachable — is recorded in the log; see Troubleshooting.

Finish

Finish saves the settings of the server, sets up the Server and SwyxCDS services with the service account and starts them. At startup, the server itself brings a few more tables up to date; if that fails, it stops again and writes the cause to the Windows Event Viewer.

First steps in the Administration

Once the server has started, set it up with the Administration:

  1. Install the Admin package, on the server or on a workstation.
  2. Start myContactCenter Admin and enter the name of the server with Add Server — see Starting and logging in.
  3. Log in as Administrator with the password passwort and change the password immediately — see Changing a password.
  4. Enter your license keys and activate them — see License keys and Activation. Without Server: Base key, the server does not accept any Agents, Routing Services or Wallboards.
  5. In the server configuration, set up the phone system on the PBX tab, the sending of emails and, if needed, the AI key; create the mailboxes under Mailboxes.

Then comes the Routing Service. Create agents, skills and flows as described in the Administration and Flows chapters.
