Everyone who works with the Administration needs their own administrator account. You manage the accounts in the Administrators area of the navigation pane.
The Administrators list
The header shows under Active how many administrators are currently logged in; their icon is green. The columns:
| Column | Content |
|---|---|
| Name | the user name |
| Description | your note on the account |
| Main administrator | Yes if the account has all permissions |
| Login permitted | No if the account may not log in |
| Logged in at | since when the administrator has been logged in |
| Device IP | the computer from which they are logged in |
Every administrator sees this area. Only those who have the Administrator configuration permission with Change may create, change and delete accounts; with See, the accounts can only be viewed.
Creating an administrator
- Right-click in the list and choose Add. The New administrator dialog opens.
- On the General tab, enter the User name, a Description if needed, and the Password twice — under Password and Password verification.
- Turn on Login allowed. For new accounts, the switch is off.
- On the Permissions tab, set the permissions for the areas the administrator is to work with.
- Click Save.
If the administrator is to receive permissions for certain skills, open the account again afterwards: the Skills tab can only be edited once the account has been saved. How permissions and profiles work together is described in Permissions and administrator profiles.
General tab
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| User name | The name for logging in. Required. The name is not case-sensitive at login. |
| Description | Free text, for example the name and department of the person. |
| Password, Password verification | The password for logging in. When you open the dialog, both fields are empty; if you leave them empty, the previous password remains. |
| Root administrator | Makes the account a main administrator, see below. Also turns on Login allowed. |
| Login allowed | If the switch is off, the server rejects the login with Login not possible. This lets you lock an account without deleting it. |
Changing a password
- In the Administrators list, open the account with a double-click — including your own.
- Enter the new password under Password and Password verification.
- Click Save.
For this, you need the Administrator configuration permission with Change, even for your own password. The Administration does not prescribe a length or particular characters; still, choose a long password that you do not use anywhere else. The new password applies from the next login.
Main administrators
A main administrator has all permissions everywhere; the Permissions tab does not matter for them. There can be several. Some things only main administrators may do:
- edit the Maintenance Plan in the server configuration and open the License manager,
- close active alarms and filter the historical alarms,
- create performance indicators via the empty area of the list and export them.
If no license for administrators is free any more, a main administrator can still log in: they take over the license of another logged-in administrator, who is logged off in the process.
The account after installation
After installation, there is exactly one account: Administrator with the
password passwort, a main administrator. Right at the start, create personal
accounts and change the password of this account, or lock it with
Login allowed as soon as another main administrator has been set up.
Deleting an administrator
Right-click the account, choose Delete and confirm Delete administrator? with OK. Together with the account, the server also removes its skill assignments.
When changes take effect
- Permissions, Root administrator and skill assignments take effect immediately, even for a logged-in administrator: their navigation pane is rebuilt.
- Password, Login allowed and deleting an account only take effect at the next login. Anyone who is currently logged in remains logged in until they log off.
