Severities are the levels at which alarms occur, for example “Notice”, “Warning” and “Critical”. You define their names and number yourself; there are none after installation. Each severity determines how an alarm is reported.
The ranking
The list under Performance Monitoring › Severity is sorted by rank: The bottom severity is the most severe. A new severity is added at the end and is therefore the most severe.
The icon shows how a severity reports: green by email and SNMP, blue by email only, orange by SNMP only, gray neither. The header counts the severities, for example Severities: 3.

Moving and deleting
Higher in the context menu moves a severity up one row — it becomes less severe —, Lower moves it down one row — it becomes more severe. If you delete a severity, the following ones move up.
