You install a new version by installing the new packages over the old ones. Each package removes the installed version including its services and installs the new one; the settings files are kept.
Before the update
- Check the warranty. If the extended warranty does not cover the new version, purchased licenses stop counting after a grace period — see Checking before an update.
- Back up the database. Create a backup — see Creating a backup — or switch on Create backup in the Server Configurator.
- Choose the time. During the update, the services are stopped; the contact center then accepts nothing.
Procedure
- Server. Install the new Server package. The Server Configurator then starts by itself, prefilled with the previous settings. Go through all pages; Start brings the databases up to the level of the new version, Finish sets up the services again and starts them — see Setting up the server. Update a standby server in the same way; it does not matter which server comes first.
- Dispatcher, Logger and Routing Service. Install their packages and go through each configurator up to Finish.
- Administration. Install the new Admin package on all workstations where the Administration runs.
- Agents and Wallboards. Install the new packages on the workstations. The Wallboard Configurator starts again during this, with the previous registration points; close it with Finish.
- Licenses. After an update to a new major version, activate the licenses again — see Activation.
Update the Server, Routing Service and Agents together to the same version, even if older Agents could still log in: telephony functions depend on the interaction of these three.
If the server converts its statistics data after the update, its entry in the navigation pane of the Administration shows Updating with the duration so far — see The server in the navigation pane.
Which versions work together
| Program | Rule | If the version is too old |
|---|---|---|
| Administration | at least the version of the server; a newer one is allowed | Login fails with Login not possible — see If login fails. |
| Agent | at least the minimum version that the server requires; a newer one is allowed | The Agent shows the Wrong Version window — Need product version with the minimum version — and login fails with Version not supported. |
| Wallboard | as for the Agent | The Wallboard reports the logoff and closes after a few seconds. |
| Routing Service, Dispatcher, Logger | The server does not check their version. | – |
So always install the server first and then the other packages of the same version.
