How an alarm proceeds
The server continuously evaluates all performance indicators. What happens to an alarm in the process:
| Event | Alarm | Notification |
|---|---|---|
| The value reaches a threshold. | raised | email, SNMP trap, event log, supervisors |
| The value moves to another severity. | changed | email, SNMP trap, supervisors |
| A main administrator closes the alarm. | acknowledged, but remains active | supervisors |
| The value no longer reaches any threshold. | ended | supervisors |
An alarm also ends when its entry disappears — the agent logs off, the conversation is over —, when someone changes or deletes the indicator, and when the server becomes passive.
The server records every raise, change and acknowledgment in the history, see Historical alarms.
Who is informed
| Channel | Prerequisite | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Supervisors | They are selected under Supervisors in the alarm configuration and logged in to the Agent. | every raise, change and acknowledgment, and the end of the alarm |
| Send email is turned on for the severity, the alarm configuration contains addresses, and email sending is set up. | according to the email template | |
| SNMP trap | SNMP trap is turned on in the alarm configuration, Send as SNMP for the severity, and an SNMP server is entered in the SNMP settings. | the name of the indicator — for indicators per entry, with the entry concerned —, the value, the level and the uptime of the server |
| Event log | Event log state of the severity is not set to Do not write. | only when raised, with the source CCALARM and a text such as Waiting[Warning] RAISED |
In the Administration, you see the alarms in the Alarms list.
Active alarms
Performance Monitoring › Alarms shows the active alarms with the Name of the indicator, Type, Severity, Raised at, Changed at and Closed at. The times are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The header counts the alarms that have not yet been acknowledged, for example Alarms: 2.
The list fetches the status when it is opened and does not update itself afterwards. To see the latest status, open it again.
Acknowledging alarms
With Close in the context menu, a main administrator acknowledges one or more alarms, without a confirmation prompt. An acknowledged alarm remains active and in the list: if its value moves to another severity, it is changed again and reports again; if the value no longer reaches any threshold, it ends like any other. The list shows the acknowledgment as soon as you reopen it.
Historical alarms
Performance Monitoring › Historical alarms shows the history: every raise, change and acknowledgment as a row of its own, newest first. The icon is green when the alarm has ended and red while it continues. The times are in local time.
When opened, the list loads the last 50 entries of all severities. The filter, which only main administrators can use, shows more or other entries:
- Right-click the list and choose Filter.
- Under Number:, enter the maximum number of entries you want to see.
- Under Up to severity, select the least severe severity you want to see: the list shows it and all more severe ones. The most severe one is preselected; for all entries, select the least severe one.
- Click Save. The list reloads.
