A second server can be ready as a standby: the master continuously transfers every saved configuration to it, and if the master fails or you switch over, the standby takes over. Agents, wallboards and Routing Services learn from the Dispatcher which server is currently active. For an overview, see High availability.
Setting up
The Standby tab of the server configuration only exists on the master. In the Contact center server group — this requires the Dispatcher permission — enter:

If both fields contain the same name, it is a single server; this is the state after installation. If you enter another server under Standby and save, the master establishes the connection to the standby and from then on transfers every change. Below, the group shows the system IDs of both servers from their licenses: Master System ID and Standby System ID.
The standby server needs its own licenses and its own activation — see Licenses for the standby server. Which servers the Dispatchers know as master and standby is determined by their own setup, not by this tab. All steps for a standby server are shown in Standby server.
The Dispatcher gives the name from Master or Standby to the Agents, wallboards, Routing Services and Loggers as the address of the active server. The name must therefore be resolvable on all these computers. If they cannot reach the server under this name, they try the alternative name.
Synchronizing
The Synchronization group — Standby configuration permission — fully synchronizes the standby with the master, for example after setup:
- Turn on Synchronize configuration data, Synchronize statistics data or both.
- Click Synchronize now.
The dialog closes without saving. The master replaces the configuration of the standby with its own or transfers the statistics; only the active server can do this (otherwise Server must be active). The server’s entry in the navigation pane shows the progress, and the information area reports completion with Synchronization completed.
Switching over
You switch over in the ribbon with Make Server Active and Make Server Passive — see Making a server active or passive.
